SCOTT GRYDER RESPONSE TO LAUREN UNDERWOOD GDP BOASTS
Oswego, IL – In response to U.S. Representative Lauren Underwood’s taking credit for U.S. GDP growth of 5.7%, claiming that with her support our economy is experiencing the fastest growth in 40 years, Kendall County Board Chairman, Scott Gryder issued the following statement:
While any growth is good, and desperately needed, Lauren Underwood’s boastful statement overlooks the fact that the U.S. economy contracted by over 19-percent during the coronavirus outbreak during which thousands of small businesses and millions of jobs were lost due to politically motivated, unscientific and overly harsh restrictions placed upon Main Street by a massively intrusive government enforced shut-down of the U.S. economy over the past two years.
Worse, Illinois continues to lag the nation in growth. Illinois is still missing more than 250,000 jobs since the pandemic began and residents are facing some of the highest unemployment rates in the nation while inflation eats away at the meager gains people do see in their take-home pay.
If this is the “better America” we can expect from Lauren Underwood in 2022 and for “years to come” then we are in serious trouble.
As Chairman of the Kendall County Board, I pushed for a pro-growth, pro-family, pro-freedom agenda of common-sense solutions that helped propel Kendall County to lead Illinois in growth above all other counties.
As the next Representative in the U.S. House from Illinois 14th Congressional District, I will do the same.
Gryder is seeking the Republican nomination in the upcoming primary to challenge Underwood for the future of Illinois’ 14th congressional district. To learn more visit www.scottgryder.com.
